About - Making Climate and Environment Policies for & with Children and Young People V3

null

Children and young people often experience the most serious consequences from climate and environmental hazards, shocks and stresses. They are not only facing a lifetime of climate chaos but are living it now. Government-led climate policies influence and direct local, regional and national finance and action. When policies are child sensitive, their potential to lower child vulnerability to climate change increases. Child-sensitive policies also position children and young people to be more aware, educated, empowered and resilient. Understanding and knowing how to build more inclusive policies for and with children and young people is critical. ### NDCs and Child Sensitivity data platform This platform showcases findings from a UNICEF analysis of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) submitted after September 2019. The platform data covers 47 indicators which provide context and/or determine the child-sensitivity of a sub-set of national climate plans: NDCs. The findings are presented and visualized on the platform through the global dashboard, the country/party profiles and an interactive map.- Search for a keyword across the text of all NDCs using the NDC search. - Compare indicators for two or three countries side by side with the Country comparison function. - Build your own visualization using climate and economic modeling data with Akuko. - Download data on emissions, countries targets, future pathways and linkages between NDCs and SDGs in Data Explorer.Children and young people often experience the most serious consequences from climate and environmental hazards, shocks and stresses. They are inclusive of all children’s and young people’s rights, participation and role as stakeholders and drivers of change. *[See the Methodology section](/post/fc575f1d-ad20-472c-a59f-9b92ec7f3cc1). ________________________________ ### Why do we need child-sensitive climate policies? * Child-critical social services more prepared, safe and resilient * Child rights secured and acted upon * Children and young people educated, included, empowered and resilient ________________________________# How to use the dataFor any questions, inquiries or partnership requests, you can contact us at **climate@unicef.org** ## Contact us* **ACT**: Identify gaps and opportunities for greater child-sensitive policies and action, with the inclusion of children’s and young people’s voices and needs. * **INVEST**: Identify areas for increased climate financing in child-critical social services, especially in countries with high children’s climate risk. * **INFORM**: Use evidence for decision-making in climate, environment, energy and DRR planning to more child sensitive action plans. * **PARTNER**: Develop partnerships that increase the child sensitivity of climate commitments and action. This includes engaging with children and young people as stakeholders, rightsholders and agents of change, especially those from vulnerable populations. * **MONITOR**: Observe areas that could be more child sensitive in commitments and action to advocate for and track improvement. This includes using the NDCs for Every Child platform data to visualize and track global, regional and national progress towards the inclusion of children and youth in climate policy and action.### {item} {description}### {item} {description}### {item} {description}### {item} {description}*The methodology for the “NDC and child sensitivity study” explains how and why the mapping specifically looks at NDCs submitted to the UNFCCC NDC Registry. The study recognizes that some countries use other documents to describe child-sensitive actions and commitments, such as National Adaptation Plans and Adaptation Communications. Thus, the data here should be recognized as one input into a wider discussion on how governments are and can involve children and young people in climate plans, policies and actions and advance their rights, needs and services across sectors.LegalFor any questions, inquiries or partnership requests, you can contact us at [climate@unicef.org](mailto:climate@unicef.org)*The methodology for the “NDC and child sensitivity study” explains how and why the mapping specifically looks at NDCs submitted to the UNFCCC NDC Registry.
